beth in germany (april, 2008)
Recently, my mother was invited to attend her high school reunion in Heidelberg, Germany. She asked if she could take the girls with her, and our older daughter, Beth, accepted. Here are some of the photos Beth brought back from her trip with Oma. Click on each thumbnail to see a larger version.

On the plane ride there with Oma and GooneyVogel,
her German-speaking buddy that she's had ever since she was a little kid

Beth and Oma stayed at the Hotel Kredell, owned by Oma's friend Heike, in nearby Neckargemund
There, she met up with Great-Aunt Waltraud, Oma's older sister

Dinner with Waltraud, Oma, Heike, and Heike's husband, Don

No sightseeing tour of Heidelberg would be complete without a trip to the castle overlooking the city

I call the fellows in the photo at left the "Charlie Brown Knights" because of their round heads.
Walking around the grounds; Beth in the castle's apothecary

Beth by the famous "Elisabeth's Gate," supposedly erected in a single night as a wedding present to a princess;
On the terrace overlooking the city; the ruined magazine, which used to hold gunpowder until it exploded

Beth by the statue and fountain of "Father Rhine;" Oma in the garden

Beth's cousin Nathalie, who's a year younger than Beth, invited Beth to come to school with her.
Yes, Beth brought that Kent Island sweatshirt (where we live) for Nathalie

Beth was amazed at how many kids ride their bikes to school--very different from America!

Beth had a great time!
