Joni and her friend Betsy McGill;
Joni and Betsy with my best friend, Pat
The party's entertainment was magician/mime
Jack
Julius

Jack starting the show with some
techno pantomime;
Threading a needle through a balloon
held by our neighbors' son, Dylan

Card tricks and making birds appear
out of nowhere
A rope trick with our neighbors'
son Nathan,
our niece Maggie, and Ally-Jane

Nathan cutting the rope and Maggie
magically moving the knot
A little Kleenex-waving, butt-shaking,
hip-swaying, paper-munching fun
with me, Joni's sister Katie, and
Joni...
...which led to Jack pulling colored
ribbons
out of his mouth and the rest of
us spitting out Kleenex

Jack took a $20 bill from me, made
me sign my name on it, put it in an envelope, lit the
envelope on fire, then cut open
a fresh lemon, and the $20 bill--with my signature--was in there

Teaching Beth some magic with rings

Ripping up (and magically putting
back together as a hat) some paper for our niece Natasha

Betsy happens to love birds, so
Jack was kind enough to
conjure her one out of some cards

Pressing a bottle all the way through
our friend Robin's body and magically
relieving Vicki of a bra, with help
from her husband Ron (behind Jack) and
our neighbor Andy (in the Ravens
jersey)

And that was the show, with a birthday
certificate and some presents for Joni
No event at my folks' house is complete
without
a veritable feast, whipped up by
my mom
Ally Jane helped Joni open her presents...

...which included a Harley sweatshirt
and a motorcycle
jacket to go with the 883
Sportster I got her

The party was delayed a day by a
blizzard, but it was a good time!
