St.
Michael telling Satan, "And stay down, bitch."
Saint
Laurent of Paris, where we celebrated Easter

It's a long climb to get to Sacre
Coeur Basilica, where people
(including this "living statue") hang out on the steps on Sunday afternoons

On those Sundays, there are performers
and street vendors, and it's a fun, festive
atmosphere (though it is very
crowded, and the steps are pretty steep)

Sacre Coeur sits atop the highest
hill in Paris, and the views are very pretty

Sainte-Chapelle
is your typical Gothic cathedral from the outside, but inside...

...you can better see the towering
stained glass windows depicting over a thousand Biblical scenes
--and each one is different

Just like with our visit
to Versailles, these few photos don't do the interior
of Sainte-Chapelle proper justice
in showing you how pretty it is

It's the upper chapel of Sainte-Chapelle
that has most of the gorgeous
artwork. You descend from there
down a narrow, twisting staircase...

...past these gargoyles (the one
on the left, with the tilted head, reminds
me of our cat, Gandalf;
the one on the right looks like our dog Tiki)...

...and out to the Palais
de Justice, which isn't a religious site, but is right next to Sainte-Chapelle...

...then down the street to Notre
Dame.

Yes, there really is a hunchback
at Notre Dame: see?

Sainte-Chapelle is not much to look
at on the outside, but it's beautiful inside;
Notre Dame is the opposite: the
outside is the really striking part. Look at these doors.

Here's the inside. Not ugly, but
not as pretty as Sainte-Chapelle

As you can see, it's kind of dark
inside Notre Dame, but there are icons, statues, and sarcophagi of bishops
Next up, boating
on the Seine!
